1/21 - 1/25 Sister Helen Prejean

 

1) A showing of the film Dead Man Walking, Thursday, Jan. 21, 7:00-9:30, Living Learning Center Performance Hall (Rm 101) on U of O campus.  Dr. William Long, Professor of Law at Willamette University and author of A Tortured History: The Story of Capital Punishment in Oregon will deliver a pre-screening talk to contextualize the film, and " show why the debate over capital punishment has risen to such visibility in the last few years in American discussion."  Dr. Long will also briefly explain how death penalty cases are handled and his theory of the "waves" of American history with respect to the death penalty.  After the film, Dr. Long will moderate a discussion with the audience and answer questions.

3) "Inalienable Human Rights Today: A Presentation by Sister Helen Prejean," Monday, Jan. 25, 7:00-9:00 PM, Knight Law Center room 175.
